As of January 21, 2026, ETS has implemented substantive changes to the TOEFL iBT test, as well as to the scale scores. Please also refer to the previously shared message regarding this. The current scale of 0–120 will be replaced by a scale of 1–6. ETS will have a two-year transition period during which both the old and new scores will be listed on the certificates.
A number of educational institutions use the subscores when assessing the language proficiency of prospective students. However, these scores will no longer be listed on the new certificates. ETS has created a table to help institutions determine the subscores. In addition, information on how to interpret the scores is available on the ETS website.
