From January 2026, ETS will be using a new scale for TOEFL iBT scores<\/a>. A 1\u20136 scale will replace the current 0\u2013120 scale. According to ETS, the new scale is will be aligned more closely with CEFR proficiency levels, supporting a simpler and more consistent interpretation of results. There will be a two-year transition period during which certificates will state both the old and the new scores. ETS has also announced that it will be making substantive changes to the TOEFL iBT test itself.<\/strong><\/p>\n The adapted scale has implications for the Code of Conduct\u2019s Language Test<\/em> Appendix. The change will be processed as part of the annual update on 1 October. The National Commission aims to avoid questions and uncertainty by giving institutions a heads-up in this fashion.<\/p>\n ETS made sure to contact Hob\u00e9on, the validation body responsible for assessing the language tests, in good time. According to the relevant standard, language test suppliers must notify the validating body in the event of changes, so it can assess whether a test still meets the applicable criteria. Hob\u00e9on has added an addendum<\/a> to the existing report. Hob\u00e9on\u2019s assessment includes an evaluation of the new scale\u2019s alignment with the Common European Framework.
